Opinions about my math rocks

004: Bleeding The Orchid

Again growing my sharp edge resin collection with a nice flowery set from Amazon

Name: Aruohha DND Resin Sharp Edged Dice with Beautiful Inclusions

Description: A set of standard-size sharp-edge resin dice made with clear resin and flower / leaf inclusions. The flowers are fuscia and purple, the leaves are teal and so thin that the veins of the leaf are clearly visible. The numbers are in a very clean heavy sans serif typeface. My guess for the typeface would be: Geometric 706 Std Black. The numbers are inked in gold. Underbars are used to differentiate the 6 and 9 faces. All edges and vertices are very sharp. They come in at least 3 other color combinations (flower colors) from Aruohha on Amazon.

Where Did they come from: Amazon (again)

How much did they cost: $26

Material / Color: Clear resin with teal and fuscia flowers inside

Quality: The quality is pretty good but not great. The faces aren’t completely flat but there are almost no chips, dings, or mold marks. The numbers are a little bit scratchy inside and the gold paint shows it.

Readability: Middle of the road. They’re great in bright light but the gold font is hurts readability against this busy colorful insides of the dice. The numbers on the d20 are quite small which is what you get with standard size dice. These aren’t good in dim light.

Value: For $26, they’re an amazing value even if they don’t pop. Chinese dice makers are taking a big bite out of the bigger dice retailers.

Overall Rating: 7/10

Attempts needed to roll a natural 20: 7

Ten d20 rolls: 8, 18, 13, 5, 20, 20, 16, 14, 7, 3 (12.4 avg) nice rolls.

4d6 drop 1 stat block: 16, 13, 15, 9, 14, 14 (81 total) – A Motivated Half-Orc fighter from Black Oak who has a poem for all occasions

Random Tables rolls:

Spell Components: 99: A thin mahogany box, just half-an-inch square but 10 inches long, contains three sticks of incense. Each one looks like it could burn for about an hour before it is completely used up.

Glacier Finds: 98 – An empty scabbard to a two-handed sword

I rolled a 99 and a 98 in succession with d%/d10 dice. Wow.

Final Thoughts: Kudos again to the Amazon seller for their photos of these dice that hooked me into hitting “buy now” as I often do with dice. They’re nice looking in bright light, especially sunlight. The teal and fuscia really pop. Up close they look a little bit more cluttered which is due to the different textures and colors of flowers inside and the fact that clear resin lets you see the numbers from other faces when you look into the die. It’s a little bit confusing to the eye when you have to ignore the backwards numbers that you can see through the dice as you’re looking at the number you rolled. They’re very light, which I’m getting used to with sharp edge resin sets. For $26, I might go back and buy a few more sets of these… I should buy them as gifts for friends as I already have 19 sets of sharp-edge resin dice. (with an epic 20th set coming in the next few months). Despite giving away a few dozen sets of dice last year, my dice box is running out of room again.
