The 8th die in the set is an alternate shape d4. It’s probably my least favorite d4 shape that I’ve seen so far. The numbers are inked white (and slightly raised). The font is a bit festive with serifs on the 2 and 3 only. There is some oddness at the top of the 8 and a very thin crossbar for the 4. It’s too stylized for my font-finder to find a good match for this font. The d10s have edged waists. For cheap acrylic dice, these have relatively sharp edges and vertices. I wouldn’t call them sharp-edged but they’re almost sharp. Small dots are used to indicate orientation of the 6 and 9 faces. All of the die faces have Christmas themed designs on them. Things like: snow, snowflakes, and xmas-trees. The high faces of the d6\/d8\/d10\/d%\/d12\/d20 each have a different themed symbol instead of a number. (See the gallery below for details). They’re very festive and for cheap acrylic dice they’re actually nice looking. They’re almost sharp-edged, so I like them better than nearly anything I’ve seen from Chessex. I don’t like having an image on the 20 face of the d20 as I’ve said many, many times before but since most of the dice have images on their high faces, I’m not as bothered. If given a choice, I’d rather have the high faces inked in a different color. I think that’s one of the few things that Wyrmwood actually got right with some of their older dice. I do absolutely loathe dice that have the dice maker’s logo on the high face of the d20. I need that dopamine hit of seeing “20” on the die.

So the alternate d4 shape…. I’ve never seen this shape before and overall I don’t care for it. I found something similar on Dice Envy’s website which they call “Infinity Dice” but theirs is elongated. I don’t like having big blank white spaces on the die or having a die with “non-sides”. It’s a 6 sided die where 2 of the faces were just left unused and rounded off so that the die won’t stop with one of those faces up. It actually only has 2 sides geometrically but it can function as a 4-sided die. With the way that the rest of the dice are inked, there is only a tiny bit of white along the edges of the other dice. This d4 looks completely out of place with the big white un-inked sections. I also don’t like that they’re rounded. The die reminds me of a mobius mailbox. It doesn’t fit with the rest of the set. There I said it.

Otherwise, these dice are pretty decent. They won’t find regular rotation in my D&D sessions but I wouldn’t give these away if someone asked for them either. (hint hint dear readers….) I like the little snowflakes in the background and the the white dots that represent snow falling. The colors contrast nicely and I like the reversed look of the numbers and snow designs looking like they’re cut out of the red faces. I’m not crazy about the font with it’s mix of a few serifs, some sharp angled terminators, and very thin crossbars on a few numbers.

The dice roll fairly well thanks to the near-sharp edges, and come to a stop quickly enough so that they don’t wander. The only other issue I have with the look of the dice is that the standard d4 (tetrahedron) die has smaller red faces, so the white edges look much larger than the rest of the dice. It’s less offensive than the huge white blank areas of the other d4 shape.

Overall I like this set of dice, mostly owning to the color and negative space used in the design. I don’t think they’re available anywhere except for the Advent calendar sold by Dark Elf Dice (currently unavailable) so don’t get your hopes up if this is just a winner of a dice set in your mind.

*<\/strong>\u00a0Yes, this title is an 80s New Wave song.
