106: Pink And Glitter

Magenta glitter, liquid center, a nice font… They almost got this one just right

Name: Amethyst Geode Liquid Core Chonk d20

Description: This is a sharp edge resin Chonk d20 with a liquid center. The resin is clear with magenta and white dye inside. The liquid center has magenta small-gauge glitter inside. The numbers are inked in silver. The font is very similar to EF Bernhard Fashion. The circle portion of the 6/8/9 digits on the die is not as exaggerated as EF Bernhard Fashion’s are though. Same with the tail on the 2. The 6 and 9 faces use underbars to indicate their orientation. The die came in a small-ish cardboard box with a foam insert that the it fits snugly into.

6d20 drop 1s and 2s stat block: 12, 12, 3, 20, 19, 3 (69 total) A Dependable Human Wizard from the strongest family heritage line in the land who has gotten away with murder

For reference: the Standard Array method totals to: 72 and the Point Buy method totals to: 69.

A 20th level Bladesinger Wizard with that 20 INT that I rolled up casting Blade of Disaster against a large stone castle with a 25 AC and 600 HP. (The Wizard’s spell attack bonus is: 19!)

Blade of Disaster: You create a blade-shaped planar rift about 3 feet long in an unoccupied space you can see within range. The blade lasts for the duration. When you cast this spell, you can make up to two melee spell attacks with the blade, each one against a creature, loose object, or structure within 5 feet of the blade. On a hit, the target takes 4d12 force damage. This attack scores a critical hit if the number on the d20 is 18 or higher. On a critical hit, the blade deals an extra 8d12 force damage (for a total of 12d12 force damage).

As a bonus action on your turn, you can move the blade up to 30 feet to an unoccupied space you can see and then make up to two melee spell attacks with it again.

1st Round:
Blade #1: 2 + 19 = 21 MISS!
Blade #2: 11 + 19 = 30 HIT! 4d12 = 19 damage
Bonus Action:
Blade #3: 7 + 19 = 26 HIT! 4d12 = 25 damage
Blade #4: 11 + 19 = 30 HIT! 4d12 = 24 damage

2nd Round:
Blade #1: 5 + 19 = 24 MISS!
Blade #2: 9 + 19 = 28 HIT! 4d12 = 25 damage
Bonus Action:
Blade #3: 18 + 19 = 37 CRIT! 12d12 = 68 damage
Blade #4: 9 + 19 = 28 HIT! 4d12 = 25 damage

3rd Round:
Blade #1: 2 + 19 = 21 MISS!
Blade #2: 13 + 19 = 32 HIT! 4d12 = 21 damage
Bonus Action:
Blade #3: 8 + 19 = 27 HIT! 4d12 = 27 damage
Blade #4: 5 + 19 = 24 MISS!

4th Round:
Blade #1: 2 + 19 = 21 MISS!
Blade #2: 19 + 19 = 38 CRIT! 12d12 = 84 damage
Bonus Action:
Blade #3: 15 + 19 = 34 HIT! 4d12 = 28 damage
Blade #4: 15 + 19 = 34 HIT! 4d12 = 24 damage

5th Round:
Blade #1: 19 + 19 = 38 CRIT! 12d12 = 71 damage
Blade #2: 10 + 19 = 29 HIT! 4d12 = 16 damage
Bonus Action:
Blade #3: 1 + 19 = 20 MISS!
Blade #4: 4 + 19 = 23 MISS!

6th Round:
Blade #1: 20 + 19 = 38 CRIT! 12d12 = 76 damage
Blade #2: 8 + 19 =27 HIT! 4d12 = 31 damage
Bonus Action:
Blade #3: 13 + 19 = 32 HIT! 4d12 = 24 damage
Blade #4: 7 + 19 = 26 HIT! 4d12 = 31 damage

Total: 619 damage and the castle is a pile of rubble.

We’re attacking structures now, watch out! Blade of Disaster doesn’t care what it’s hitting, it just piles on the damage. The wizard still had 4 more rounds of damage to deal before the spell ends. I guess we need a bigger castle next time. Maybe the wizard needs to go after the Two Towers next time. (I just watched LotR: RotK last night)

Random Tables rolls (6d20):

NPC Physical Traits: – 59 The NPC’s mouth is permanently crooked, giving them a cocky smirk even in serious moments.

Legendary Eberron Items: – 89 The Pale Blade: This powerful longsword is said to be crafted from the bones of a dead god. It is said that when drawn in battle, a pale light radiates from the blade, granting its wielder increased strength and speed. Those who have wielded it in battle have reported feeling an overwhelming sense of dread and despair that seems to linger after each fight.

Final Thoughts: I bought this d20 as a: “Hey, that looks nice, sure add it to the cart” purchase when I was last shopping at Everything Dice. I should have given it a little bit more consideration. It’s a nice color of purple with white cloudy resin. I’d like it a little bit better if the glitter inside was much finer. As I’m sure I’ve said many times before, I strongly prefer liquid-core dice to have the super-fine mica powder in them instead of confetti. I noticed when I was taking photos of this die that the air bubble in the liquid core is larger than I’ve seen in a liquid-core die before which is unfortunate. There are some good things to talk about though, I like the white lightning designs on the inside of the die, the font is very nice and easy to read. Of course it would be much easier to read if it were a color that contrasted more with the non-purple faces of the die. I love the color combination of magenta/purple and white in dice though, so that’s pleasant.

It feels to me like the die rolls a bit on the low side which the 50 roll mean (average) agrees with but barely (9.8 mean). The actual rolling around of the die on table/mat/tray is great though. It doesn’t skitter, bump, or wander and it comes to a stop in a good medium amount of time. The edges and vertices on this dice are properly sharp. The design of the die reminds me a bit of the Luxon Beacon d20 from Critical Role (which was also made by Everything Dice) that I reviewed in post #011 “Beacon Sighted”. They both have design lines under the resin and liquid cores. Both of them are also just under 32mm (side to side). I don’t think this die will find much time at the table unfortunately. It has a lot of other competition when it comes to chonk d20s. I have 13 other resin chonk d20s, 16 metal d20s and 7 stone/glass d20s that are in the same 30mm-38mm size range to choose from when I pack my D&D bag. It’s a jungle out there as they say. Maybe sleep on this d20 unless the color really hits your sweet spot.
