I like big dice and I cannot lie, no other dice goblins can deny

Name: Huge Chonker Inception d20
Description: This is a large hand-made medium-sharp edged resin d20 that contains several other d20s inside of it. The die is made of somewhat clear resin and there are at least 18 d20s of various sizes and 3 blank dodecahedrons (20 sided shapes) inside. The numbers are deeply carved into the faces of this large die and inked a bronze color. The font has elements of Kaleko 105 Round Bold and also EF Futura. It’s not entirely either font but if you mashed them together, it’d be pretty close. The 6 and 9 faces use underbars to indicate their orientation.
Size:
d20: (Face->Face) 81.93mm (Point->Point) 100.97mm
Where did it come from: Lost Star Tabletop Gaming
How much did they cost: $0 (I won it in a raffle)
Material / color: Clear-ish resin with various resin dice inside of different colors. Bronze colored ink for the numbers
Quality: ehh… Not great. Pretty rough job.
Readability: Pretty good. The bronze numbers have just enough contrast to read from 4 feet away on the rug.
Value: Excellent value. It was free. Was it worth the cost of making it for the person who created it though ?

A 20th level Eloquence Bard with maxed CHA and expertise in Performance making 5 performance checks during a battle of the bands (DC = 25)
Check #1 (song intro): 20 + 17 = 37 Critical success
Check #2 (first chorus): 9 + 17 = 26 Success
Check #3 (looking cool during the drum solo): 5 + 17 + 8 = 30 Success (used 1 Bardic Inspiration)
Check #4 (Killer lute solo): 2 + 17 + 7 = 26 Success (2nd Bardic Inspiration)
Check #5 (outro riff): 11 + 17 = 28 Success
She had to use 2 bardic inspirations (Peerless Skill) to look cool standing around while the drummer had her solo and then she was caught off guard when it was her turn to play the Lute solo but her Peerless Skill saved the day again. She got back on her feet for the outro riff. Battle of the Bands could really go our way this time.

Secrets revealed with Detect Thoughts: – 48 If I build a machine with wings, shaped so that the air pressure is higher below the surface of the wing, perhaps I could achieve non-magical flight… no it’ll never work. I’ll always be a turnip farmer.
Legendary Location of Eberron: – 63 The Labyrinth of the Dreaming Dragon: A sprawling underground maze, filled with puzzles and traps, where a dragon slumbers in the center. In its dreams, it can influence the minds of those who wander too close to it. Those brave enough to make it through the labyrinth may find great rewards for their efforts!

Final Thoughts: Every so often, this Local Game Store (LGS) has raffles where either the store itself or friends of the store donate games / dice / other game-related items and have a free raffle. I often donate (you guessed it) dice to the raffles and occasionally I enter the raffles if something looks good. I put my name down for two of these big chonk d20s in the most recent raffle and I ended up winning one of them. The person who donated this d20 apparently has made a few of these and this may have been part of his “learning phase” while figuring out how to make big resin d20s with more dice inside. This die is not very well polished or very carefully inked. The resin is quite cloudy and there are a few rough spots around some of the edges.
I really like the concept of a d20 filled with smaller d20s but the execution of this one wasn’t great. Size-wise this is in the novelty category where it’s too big/heavy to roll in most dice trays and I’ll have to roll it on the table rug on the floor when I bring it to my in-person game. So far rolling it is not great. It’s hard to handle and a couple of the sides are a little bit convex (bulging out) so they don’t sit flat.
It’s not very practical to use as a d20 in a game but it’s neat to look at and stare at the dice inside of it. I think after I bring it to my in-person game, I’ll probably leave it at home with some of my other novelty d20s on a shelf. I’d say that you (the reader) should buy one of these, but you can’t. If they were to go on sale, I’d say that a cleaned up version of this would be a reasonable deal at $50 – $60. I’ve seen other dice this size that have a liquid center and holofoil inside and I’d love to get one of those but with smaller d20s inside of the liquid center as well. Give me the d20 dice inception all the way!
