073: Orange Crush

It’s hard to go wrong with sharp edge resin dice with holofoil inclusions inside

Name: Orange Sharp Edge Dice (I guess?)

Description: This is a slightly larger than standard-size set of sharp edge resin dice. They are a nice medium orange color resin with yellow/green holofoil inclusions. The numbers are inked white. The numbers use a very simple font, maybe a slightly horizontally stretched version of Autor with zeroes that are circular instead of oval. The 6 and 9 faces use underbars to indicate their orientation and the d10 and d% have edged waists. I don’t know if these specific dice are available in other color combinations. They’re just sharp-edge resin dice for the most part and there are literally hundreds of different sharp-edge resin dice color / inclusion combinations available. Sadly I only own about 30 different sets of them.

Size:
d20: (Face->Face) 21.2 mm (Point->Point) 26.2 mm

Where did they come from: No idea. I have no digital receipts for this set

How much did they cost: $45 if I had to guess based on past purchases and their makeup.

Material / color: Resin / Orange with yellow & green holofoil

Quality: Excellent. No mold flaws, good even numbering, nice inclusions.

Readability: Excellent. Among the most readable dice I have. Passed the 8′ rug test easily

Value: Great value. I’ve bought many sets of this type of dice.

Overall Rating: 9/10

Attempts needed to roll a natural 20: 7 rolls

Fifty d20 rolls: 10, 17, 20, 3, 4, 14, 3, 18, 20, 2, 16, 19, 19, 12, 5, 13, 6, 10, 13, 1, 20, 9, 2, 19, 2, 10, 3, 14, 16, 9, 19, 1, 15, 16, 2, 7, 20, 5, 10, 4, 6, 20, 2, 13, 19, 18, 6, 16, 18, 15

Mean: 11.22
Median: 12.5
Mode: 2, 19, 20

First time I’ve had a 20 in the Mode list…

4d6 drop 1 stat block: 17, 16, 14, 6, 15, 11 (79 total) A Plain-speaking Elf Ranger from an island that can’t be reached by boat who refuses to admin they’re past their prime.

For reference: the Standard Array method totals to: 72 and the Point Buy method totals to: 69.

Casting A 20th level Ranger casting Steel Wind Strike with her +3 dagger against 5 trolls surrounding her:
1st Attack: 18 + 9 + 3 = 30 (Hit!) for (6d10) 38 force damage
2nd Attack: 14 + 9 + 3 = 26 (Hit!) for 38 force damage
3rd Attack: 5 + 9 + 3 = 17 (Hit!) for 38 force damage
4th Attack: 12 + 9 + 3 = 24 (Hit!) for 38 force damage
5th Attack: 3 + 9 + 3 = 15 (Hit!) for 38 force damage

(This is another excuse for rolling dice)

Random Tables rolls:

Assassins, Thieves, and Criminals: 50 – Mukmuk Akai Urban Human Druid who sells a variety of illegal potions, spells and other substances. Has several pigeon familiars, all named ‘Bird’, and knows the city like the back of their hand.

Fae Bargains: 04 – You can no longer distinguish left and right.

(I’m getting these random tables at: https://d100tables.com by the way

Final Thoughts: What can I say about these dice that hasn’t already been said in this dice review blog about so many of my other sharp-edge resin dice sets. These are very clean and shiny. The orange resin makes the gold holo-foil look fantastic. The white numbers are very clear and easy to read from any angle. They roll fine, they’re slightly bigger than standard, and I love them. I already owned at least a dozen sets of this type of dice when I bought these. I figured I just needed some in Orange so I found this set and got them. I’m sure I need more sharp edge resin dice in other colors as well but I just haven’t looked for them lately.

The only thing keeping these from a perfect rating is that while they do have some pop and they are very pretty, they’re not knockout-gorgeous like the other dice on this site that garnered a 10 rating. They’re amazing for what they are but they aren’t the best of the best. Maybe they’re best of the rest though.

If you’re still playing with Chessex or some other starter dice, pick up a set of these or something like them. Treat yourself just this once. You don’t have to become a Goblin and let the lure of dice consume you or anything, just get something pretty to roll. Some dice that make you want to roll more often just so you get a chance to watch the dice dance around in the light. You’re worth it… aren’t you?
