Opinions about my math rocks

002: Autumn Leaves

This week’s set might be a let down but they’re still a good value.

Name: Aruohha Yellow Green Leaf Design Metal Dice set (AKA: Urine, Green Dragon)

Description: A metal set of dice with leafy concave sides, rounded vertices and edges in a yellow/green/blue prismatic color scheme. The numbers are raised/embossed in a Gothic font but the size of the faces is small, so the numbers feel cramped. The 6 and 9 faces use underbars that blend into the chaotic design details. The d10s have scaloped waists. This dice set comes in 13 different color combinations from the ARUOHHA store at Amazon. I suspect this is the same fulfillment warehouse in China that the ORIFANTOU dice in post 001 come from. The art on the tins of each set is very similar. There are a whole slew of dice styles similar to these on Amazon now. I feel a bad for supporting them but I don’t see any of the big dice websites selling styles close to these.

Where did they come from: Amazon dot com

How much did they cost: $23

Material / Color: Metal (Zinc) Prismatic greenish/yellow and maybe blueish?

Quality: Decent. There are some dings and bits that need smoothing/polish but the faces have a rough finish on purpose

Readability: Poor, worse than I thought.

Value: At such a low price (Thank you China), they’re a good value for a set of metal dice with this amount of detail in the design.

Overall Rating: 6/10. Readability kind of kills the score.

Attempts needed to roll a natural 20: 48 rolls. (I rolled five 1s during those 48 rolls which gives them impression of a very poorly weighted d20)

Ten d20 rolls: 20, 12, 6, 13, 12, 14, 19, 14, 15, 18 (14.2 avg) wow that’s high.

4d6 drop 1 stat block: 15, 13, 18, 17, 18, 8: (89 total!!!) A Pensive Elf Wizard from the lizard-infested marshlands who wants to prove they’re no longer that goofy kid

Random Tables Rolls:

A Diety’s Demands: 16 – The word of the wise: The devotee must seek out a wise sage and listen to their counsel, taking it to heart in order to prove their faith

Liquids: 51 – Urine, Green Dragon (this set of dice could legitimately be called: “Urine, Green Dragon”)

Final Thoughts: I really liked the shape of these dice when I saw them online. They come in 13 colors so I picked a color that looked very readable in the product description images (the left image above). Also, I like some color in my dice (okay, a lot of color) and I have relatively few yellow or green dice. If the numbers on these dice were painted in a color that clashed with the body of the die, these would have been pretty awesome. As it is, they’re barely readable in daylight with my glasses on.

The dice are a little bouncy when rolling because of the rounded edges at every vertex. They also seem quite unbalanced. My 4d6 drop 1 rolls totaled 89, which is crazy high compared to the standard array (15, 14, 13, 12, 10, 8) which totals 72.

I like the greenish/yellow color that turns blue if you look at them from the right angle though. That’s where these dice really shine. I’m not sure if I love the flowery leafy design or not. It mostly makes it difficult to see which die is which at a quick glance. The d12 and d20 look similar as do the d10s and d8.

Overall they’re a decent set of rocks but given how hard they are to read, I’ll most likely use them a few times and then try to give them away to the first person that compliments them.
