054: Better In Color

You tried hard to make a nice rainbow set of dice and almost succeeded

They look really good if you set them in the exact right orientation

Name: Eternal Prism Sharp Edge Dice Set

Description: This is a standard-size set of sharp-edge resin dice. The resin was poured in a rainbow pattern of stripes on each die. The numbers are carved into the faces somewhat deep (for dice) and they are inked in white. The font used is the “Easy Roller Font” that I see on a lot of their resin dice. I have no idea what font it could be with its curves and serifs and finials on the 3/6/9s. The 6 and 9 faces use underbars. All edges and vertices are sharp and the d10s have edged waists. These dice don’t come in any other styles / color ways.

Size:
d20: (Face->Face) 22.1mm (Point->Point) 27.4mm

Where did they come from: Easy Roller Dice

How much did they cost: $33 (Normally $55 but I caught them on sale)

Material / color: Resin in a rainbow of colors (ROYGBIV)

Quality: Very good. Clean edges, neat numbering, Almost no blemishes / scratches / dings

Readability: Incredibly good. Setting the benchmark for readability. No problem reading them from 8 feet away on the rug.

Value: On sale these are a good deal. For full price they’re borderline.

Overall Rating: 8/10

Attempts needed to roll a natural 20: 8 rolls

Ten Fifty d20 rolls: 13, 4, 3, 3, 17, 3, 15, 7, 12, 3, 9, 10, 7, 5, 12, 16, 17, 17, 13, 13, 5, 3, 1, 14, 14, 4, 7, 18, 3, 19, 6, 13, 10, 11, 4, 7, 10, 3, 16, 14, 1, 7, 16, 20, 17, 15, 15, 18, 14, 7 ( 10.22 avg)

Not an impressive distribution but my methods aren’t terribly scientific either

4d6 drop 1 stat block: 10, 7, 15, 15, 16, 13 (76 total) An Intolerant Tiefling Warlock from the inner city slums who is haunted by the ghosts of those they kill.

For reference: the Standard Array method totals to: 72 and the Point Buy method totals to: 69.

Casting Eldritch Blast as a 17th level Warlock (with Agonizing Blast Invocation):

A beam of crackling energy streaks toward a creature within range. Make a ranged spell attack against the target. On a hit, the target takes 1d10 force damage.

The spell creates more than one beam when you reach higher levels: two beams at 5th level, three beams at 11th level, and four beams at 17th level. You can direct the beams at the same target or at different ones. Make a separate attack roll for each beam.

If all four beams hit a target takes: 22 force damage

(This is another excuse for rolling dice)

Random Tables rolls:

Rare and Unique Materials: 7 – Devil Flesh: Red, rune covered material that catches fire upon downing an enemy, causing extra fire damage.

Masks: 90 – An organic ‘mask’ that’s akin to a facehugger: It slowly drains the wearers constitution until their death.

(I’m getting these random tables at: https://d100tables.com by the way

Final Thoughts: I like colorful things so when I saw these dice on the Easy Roller website and they were on sale, I bought them. They were backordered though so it took a few months for them to arrive. It took long enough that I forgot about them until I got the shipping notification. The resin colors in the dice are a little dark and muddled unfortunately. The purple resin is very dark, almost black and it overpowers the overall look of the dice with the exception of the d4, which somehow came out much brighter than the rest of the set. I think the red and violet layers (on opposite sides of each die) are too big and too close to each other on all of the dice except the d4. This makes the rainbow effect much harder to see on these dice. The set that I bought are much darker than the marketing photos on the website where they don’t have violet or red layers that are quite so large/dark in their rainbows.

The dice feel nice and are weighted well for resin dice. They are a little bit jittery and make a little wiggle when they settle at the end of a roll. As much as I like dice that stop on a dime, this jitter is kind of… cute I guess. This is a set of relatively basic sharp edge resin dice but with a dark rainbow made of the resin layers. I wish the color was lighter / more vibrant but I get what I get.

After a few stinkers, I’m starting to lose faith in Easy Roller. I like their points program and all of the discounts that they throw at customers but this is the third(?) set of dice that haven’t been nearly as nice as the website images showed. With 60%+ of Easy Roller’s inventory perpetually out of stock I don’t end up buying very much from them anyway so it’s not earth shattering.

I really liked what these dice tried to be and I’m happy enough (but not thrilled) with what showed up in my mailbox. I think in very bright light they’d look much better than they currently do. My regular in-person game is in someone’s (amazing) basement game room / man cave where the light is a little bit dim (and can change colors!) so there’ll be no bright light there. On a side note, I’m really impressed with how cool his gaming room is. He has the cool gaming table with the top that comes off, cool decor, a good sound system…. It’s a great place to play. I’m very lucky to have a GM with such a cool space to play ttRPGs. If some of my dice just don’t pop off like they should under the mood lighting he has down there that’s fine. With > 100 sets of dice to pick from I’m sure I’ll be okay.
